Organisation spreads love at Memorial Flats

Honeyfield Charity shifted its focus from the homeless to honour senior citizens with a three-course meal, gifts, roses and a day filled with love, laughter and dignity.

Honeyfield Charity recently hosted a heartfelt Valentine’s Day celebration dedicated to honouring elderly members of the community at Memorial Flats.

While the organisation normally focuses its outreach on assisting street people and the homeless, their CEO and founder, Ann Bezuidenhout, said this year it was laid on the team’s hearts to do something special for the elderly.

“Valentine’s Day became an opportunity to give love, dignity, and appreciation to those who so often receive little of it. The elderly guests enjoyed a warm and delicious three-course Valentine’s Day meal, complete with dessert and sweet treats – a gesture that brought smiles to many faces,” she said.

Ann explained that every attendee was also presented with a small gift and a red rose, a simple yet powerful reminder that they are valued and not forgotten.

“One of the most touching moments of the day was seeing Tannie Koekie Snyman, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on March 18, dancing alongside one of the volunteers. Her joy captured the spirit of the entire gathering, pure happiness and heartfelt appreciation.”

Honeyfield continues to serve both elderly and homeless community members and welcomes donations of non-perishable food, blankets, furniture, or any unwanted goods. Contributions will help the organisation support vulnerable residents throughout the year, where you can contact Ann on 082 378 1395.

“The atmosphere was filled with laughter, gratitude, and emotion. For us, Valentine’s Day was not just about romance; it was about restoring dignity, spreading kindness, and reminding the elderly that they are deeply loved and appreciated,” she concluded.
