Millies dig into town history

More than 140 learners took part in an interactive heritage lesson exploring the history and evolution of their town.

Laerskool Millennium Primary School planted a seed of passion for the town’s history among its Grade Four learners on February 13.

About 142 learners gathered for an engaging history session, where the chairperson of the Krugersdorp Heritage Association (KHA), Phillip Greyling, shared insights about the town’s origins, historic sites and fascinating facts.

Millies’ departmental head, Genene Viljoen, explained that the session formed part of the learners’ first-term curriculum, which requires them to explore their town through pictures, stories, interviews, writing and historical objects.

Boikanyo Montshiwa and Dimpho Maila are eager to learn about the town’s history.

“We discussed general information about the town and how it has changed over time. The highlight was that the learners were able to conduct interviews with Phillip and ask him questions about the town,” she said.
