Police confirm death in CBD crash was one of their own

Authorities confirmed that the victim of a fatal collision in the Krugersdorp CBD on March 5 was a police captain.

Following a crash between a light motor vehicle and a truck on March 5, West Rand Emergency Services and police provided an official response.

Acting regional commander for West Rand Emergency Services, Craig Marsden, stated that they received the call at about 07:05, and upon arrival, the driver had succumbed to his injuries.

He confirmed that responders, including Station 38 Fire, police and forensics, had cleared the scene by 08:58.

Amid social media claims regarding the identity of the deceased, West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson Karen du Plessis confirmed that he was a captain in the police service.
