Day 17: Missing parrot Havi sighted in Kenmare

Multiple sightings over the weekend have renewed hope that Havi could soon be reunited with his family after more than two weeks away from home.

After 17 difficult days of uncertainty and searching, there is renewed hope for the safe return of Havi, a missing parrot who continues to be sighted around the Kenmare area.

Several confirmed sightings over the weekend of May 9 and 10 have reassured Havi’s owner that their beloved bird is still alive and nearby. The first sighting was reported on Friday afternoon, May 8, in Kenmare. On Saturday evening, Havi was allegedly seen in a garden on Ivan Smuts Road, followed by another possible sighting on Sunday afternoon when a resident on Howth Street heard a distinctive squawk believed to be from the missing parrot.

Although the sightings have brought hope, the search has also been emotionally exhausting for Havi’s owner, who has rushed to each location only to arrive moments too late.

“It’s been very tiring if I’m honest,” Andre-Juan le Sueur said. “I never get to the sighting on time, and I just wish someone could catch him and bring him home. It’s been over two weeks of constant worrying now, and it’s taking its toll.”

The repeated reports suggest that Havi remains in the Kenmare area, keeping hopes alive that he can still be safely reunited with his family.

Residents are urged not to chase the parrot if spotted, as frightened birds can quickly fly away. Instead, anyone who sees Havi should try to keep visual contact and immediately notify the family so they can respond as quickly as possible.

After two weeks away from home, the search for Havi continues, with every new sighting offering another reason to believe he may soon return safely.
