Silverstar brings Mandela Day cheer to hundreds in Munsieville

Hundreds of Munsieville residents benefited from Silverstar's Mandela Day outreach, receiving hot meals, children's dignity packs, pampering treatments and generous donations.

With Mandela Day centred on giving back, Silverstar Casino played its part by supporting the Munsieville community on July 18.

The team visited The Thoughtful Path, where they served hot meals to hundreds of residents.

According to Silverstar Casino communications manager Chanelle Willmot, the community outreach exceeded expectations. The team initially planned to provide full meals to more than 700 people, distribute 250 dignity packs to children and offer free manicures and pedicures. By the end of the day, however, they had served about 900 people and distributed nearly 1 000 food packs.

Willmot added that CFAO Mobility supported the initiative by donating hundreds of goodie bags, clothing, blankets and beanies for distribution to community members.

“This year, we approached Mandela Day a little differently. In the past we have partnered with schools and old age homes, but this year we chose to support an entire community,” she said.

“We did this because we recognised the great need for initiatives like this and wanted to honour what Nelson Mandela stood for.”

Willmot said the outreach aimed to recognise the needs of the broader community while honouring Mandela’s legacy of service.
