First-ever successful science fair at West Rand School

West Rand School displayed its love for science during an inter-house fair recently.

The West Rand School recently hosted its first-ever inter-house science fair which has been dubbed a success.

According to West Rand School teacher Natasha Becker, the event featured all grades going up against one another with learners and teachers eager to take the stage and showcase their knowledge and skills. Prizes were also up for grabs.

“Over 52 learners took part. The categories included mass, sound waves, hydrophobic solar eclipse, chemical reactions, fluid dynamics, natural disasters, magnetism, static electricity and electrical circuits.

“The purpose was to bring science to the learners. It is not always possible to access outside environments. We the natural science teachers wanted to cultivate a love for science and encourage the learners to participate in such events,” Becker said.

The big winners on the day were grades three and four for their volcano and static electricity projects respectively.
