Curro Krugersdorp U11 chess team shines in district finals

Curro Krugersdorp Primary School celebrates its U11 chess team's stellar 2025 season marked by focus, teamwork and a third-place district finish.

Curro Krugersdorp Primary celebrated the recent achievements of its U11 chess team, who have demonstrated exceptional skill, focus and sportsmanship throughout the 2025 season.

According to Curro’s school marketer, Dibuseng Maboya, after securing second place in their inter-district chess league, the team advanced to the highly competitive finals, where they continued to impress by earning a well-deserved third-place finish.

“This accomplishment reflects not only their strategic thinking and dedication but also the strength of teamwork and perseverance. They showed true determination and dedication throughout the season, practising tirelessly, thinking strategically, and always supporting one another as a team. To finish second in the league and third at the district finals is no small achievement, and it’s a direct reflection of the hard work they’ve put in. It has been such a privilege to watch them grow not only as chess players but also as individuals who value discipline, focus, and good sportsmanship. I couldn’t be prouder,” explained Dibuseng.

The other participating teams were from Laerskool Rapportryer, Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord and Laerskool Gerritz Maritz Primary.

”A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the coaches, parents, and supporters whose encouragement and guidance have played a vital role in the team’s journey. Their commitment has helped nurture the bright minds behind each move on the board. As the season concludes, Curro Krugersdorp continues to celebrate and support its learners who strive for excellence, both in academics and beyond,” Dibuseng concluded.
