Kagiso learners celebrate new uniforms from local charity partners

MCDF and Armscor bring smiles and school uniforms to learners in Kagiso, restoring dignity and confidence.

The days of walking long distances to school barefoot and without proper uniforms are now behind us, thanks to the Motheo Community Development Foundation (MCDF) and the Armaments Corporation of South Africa (Armscor).

On November 6, at Patrick Mashigo Primary School in Rietvallei, the two organisations donated school uniforms, which included jerseys, blue shirts, shoes, trousers for boys, and skirts for girls. The handover event brought smiles to the learners’ faces, clearly showing that the community’s hopes had been fulfilled. The students even performed creative dances to express their gratitude.

The educators were also delighted and expressed a desire for MCDF and Armscor to return to the school since there are more learners in need. MCDF, a non-profit organisation based in Kagiso, has been operating for eight years and has been fully active since 2024. The foundation is committed to fighting substance abuse through education, prevention, and community support.

Mmoni Seleke-Pule, the director of MCDF, explained that the school was chosen after consultations with community leaders and educators, who highlighted the challenges faced by the students. She mentioned that they were supported by their partner, Armscor, which contributed to the purchase of the uniforms.

“We feel truly blessed to assist so many learners in our area. This school was chosen because it represents the heart of what the Motheo Foundation stands for – serving those in need and restoring dignity to every child. The school is located in a poverty-stricken area,” Seleke said.

“So far, we have assisted two schools in the North West,” she added.

Ncamisili Masuku, Armscor’s Learning and Organisational Development consultant, remarked, “Community development initiatives are a key part of our corporate social responsibility. We are pleased to work with Motheo because their goals align with ours –making a real difference in our communities. We look forward to future collaborations.”

John Khutshwa, chairperson of the School Governing Body, stated that the donation would boost the learners’ confidence and help them focus on their education.

Seleke concluded by emphasising the importance of education and ensuring that every child feels loved and included, regardless of their background.
