Meet Millennium’s new head leaders for 2026

From eligibility checks to ballot voting and panel interviews, the school’s leadership programme teaches learners valuable life skills.

Laerskool Millennium has announced their head leaders for next year.

Millies’ departmental head, Mindie Koekemoer, explained that, firstly, all learners who wanted to stand for leadership positions had to meet certain eligibility requirements. This is where they aligned the process with the school’s Code of Conduct. Learners needed to demonstrate consistent cooperation, respect for school rules, and positive behaviour throughout the year. Only those who met these criteria were allowed to enter the leadership selection process.

Next, the eligible learners were allowed to introduce themselves to the school. With the help of Gerhard Nagel, a teacher at Millennium, each candidate recorded a short video message, where they shared who they are and why they believe they would make a good leader. These videos were then played in all Grade Five to Seven classrooms, giving every learner a fair chance to learn about each candidate.

“After watching the videos, the learners were given a ballot paper and the opportunity to cast their votes for the candidates they believed would represent them best. The 22 learners who received the highest number of votes were then appointed as school leaders for the year ahead,” she said.

Following the election, these newly appointed leaders were invited to take part in an interview with a panel where they were asked a few questions designed to assess their leadership qualities, sense of responsibility, and communication skills. Each panel member scored the candidates based on their responses. She explained that finally, through a process of careful scoring and thoughtful deliberation, the head leaders were selected.

“This process not only ensures fairness and transparency but also teaches our learners valuable lessons about democracy, accountability, and service – the true foundations of leadership,” she said.

The head leaders are:

• Brooklyn Mjodi – head girl
• Tshegofatso Mmakhudu Masupha – deputy head girl
• Neo Kgopa – deputy head of sport
• Aobakwe Morubane – deputy head of culture
• Inga Ndlazilwana – deputy head of academics

She said this group’s strong points are teamwork, a positive attitude, responsibility, creativity, confidence and respect. She concluded their focus is going to be on developing leadership skills.
