The Bible is full of great one-liners.
“The love of money is the root of all evil.”
What about, “None so blind as he that will not see”, or “Man shall not live by bread alone”.
One of the one-liners that always stop me in my tracks is John 3:30. John the Baptist said, “I must decrease, he must increase”.
It goes against the grain. I feel uncomfortable with this foreign idea. All of us want to be successful, popular, important, so we are driven to be first, tops, best. We imprint on our children that silver, second place, is not good enough.
But John says no, you must step back and allow Jesus to be number one.
Most of the problems in our world today is because everybody wants to be number one. Marriages are broken, wars are fought and churches split because people want to be number one.
If you want Jesus to drive your life, then vacate the driver’s seat.
If you want him to take center stage, you must get off of the stage.
If the spotlight is to be on him, you must step aside.
For Jesus to be number one, you must decrease. Newton’s third law says, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”.
PS. You cannot be filled with God when you are full of yourself. Amen.
