Basic right for all, or a punishment tool?

Johan Grundlingh from Quellerie Park writes:

It is 8.52pm on a Tuesday night and once again we are sitting in darkness. Now we have no guarantee that something like this can’t happen but if it becomes the norm, it gradually becomes more than just a unfortunate incident.

The previous night (Monday) the power went down at 6pm only to come on the following day at about 2pm (nearly 20 hours just to be down again now at the time of me writing this letter).

One might think ‘ag just another spoiled resident complaining again’ but my situation is a little different.

Owing to a medical condition I make use of oxygen therapy and part of the routine is to use the electrical-driven oxygen machine during night time while sleeping.

A few weeks earlier we had the same situation over a weekend and when we called the emergency electricity number we were told that if we think I will die I must go to hospital for help as they only have one electrician on call and seeing that he is very busy we must wait our turn. Unfortunately my backup oxygen bottle only allows for six hours’ usage before it is empty and the company contracted to render the oxygen machine service only refills backup bottles once every three months.

Now while sitting here trying to prepare to go through the night without oxygen I could not help but wonder if this wonderful constitution and human rights that the politicians are trying to sell to the people just to get a vote to enjoy an uninterrupted free ride on the self-centeredness of mankind has been misunderstood and that constitution has turned to constipation. No phone call, petition, strike or protest ever has succeeded in getting rid of all the unhealthy waste that eventually can turn any body(department/commission/governing body etc) into a very sick body and one major symptom is constant headaches.

Now we are enlightened enough to realise that the only real miracle is the difference the presence of truth and sincerity can make to someone’s life it is therefore imperative to know and understand that although this little situation in my little world might seem inferior to most I read that we should not believe every spirit (attitude) we come in contact with but see whether it is from God.

So my dear Mogale City officials and politicians we will see won’t we.
