Let’s buy Machuisa’s book

Thabile Mange from Kagiso writes:

Last week, I read the story of Joyce Maki Machuisa in the NEWS with a heavy heart.

Machuisa, a Kagiso resident, has been living with breast cancer since 2008.

To make matters worse, she has been told by doctors that nothing more could be done for her. That’s sad!

But I’m encouraged by her spirit of resilience. Machuisa has written a book, Walkable Journey about living with cancer. She wrote the book to ‘inspire’ and ‘give hope’.

She was quoted as saying, “Not one of the words are for personal gain; I write to inspire and give hope”.

Machuisa faced multiple challenges in publishing her book but she didn’t give up.

A good Samaritan by the name of Nicola Hattingh, a young artist from Midrand, helped her to publish her debut book three days after her birthday. God bless Hattingh.

According to the report, she wrote her book using a borrowed laptop.

That’s how determined she was.

Can you imagine a cancer patient for whom doctors have thrown in the towel writing a book to ‘inspire’ and ‘give hope’? If this doesn’t inspire the healthy and able-bodied people, nothing will.

The disappointment I had with the report is that it didn’t tell us how much the book costs and where interested readers can get it. And no review was done at all.

But credit must be given to the NEWS for reporting about the book launch. And the least we can do as residents to support Machuisa is to buy her book.

At Caxton, every story is written by humans. We use AI only to perform quality checks - never to generate the news. Happy reading!
