Watch out for sophisticated criminals

D Kies from Krugersdorp writes:

During the month of November, I was in Pep Store at President Square in Krugersdorp.

A young coloured lady caught my attention by grabbing a floral blouse on a hanger from a rail right in front of my face.

I stepped back and glared at her because I could not believe somebody could be so rude. She then shoved the hanger with the blouse on it in my hand and turned around and indicated with her hand that I must hold the hanger against her back. I don’t know why but I actually did this and she looked over her shoulder and said “Maak dit darem die boude toe?”.

At that moment I suddenly felt that something was terribly wrong with this picture because why doesn’t she go to the fitting rooms to see for herself. I then swung around and saw another young coloured lady pulling her hand away from my handbag that was hanging over my shoulder.

With my swinging around, my handbag also swung with my body and obviously out of her grasp. I looked down at my handbag and saw that the zip was partially open and my purse was halfway out of my bag. Then I realised what was happening. I looked up to confront these two ladies but they were gone – like mist in the sun.

This happened so quickly and I realised that they were so experienced in this that they know exactly what to do and how to disappear very quickly. But even if I had called out or shouted to attract attention they still would have got away because there is absolutely no security at the shop’s door.

The manageress at the store informed me that they have picked up a number of empty purses and wallets that have been thrown under the shelves. It is obvious that these two ladies have been operating in this store for a long time and the staff are aware of this because where would the empty purses and wallets come from? However, nothing has been done in the form of security.

I would like to warn the public to be very alert, and to be on their guard especially if somebody is over friendly – it is all a ploy to distract you while the accomplice is robbing you. The two ladies in question are very well dressed in the latest fashion. They wear make-up and jewellery and look very decent.

Don’t be fooled by their looks – they are highly sophisticated criminals!

The one is tall and thin and about 26 or 30 years old. The other one is shorter and stockier and about 25 years old.
