How can you just leave an injured animal?

Natasha Olivier from Noordheuwel writes:

Warning to Noordheuwel Extension 4 residents: On 6 January at 7.30am I left my residence to attend to my morning errands.

I was away from home for approximately 45 minutes and during that time my dog (who is such a part of our family and like our child) was attacked through our gate – we have small bars on the bottom half of our gate and slightly larger spaces on the top half. I arrived home with my children to a bloody scene from our gate to our front door.

To the soulless individual in the black Jeep who drove up and down our road trying to catch his pit bull and who did not even have the decency to leave a contact number or try and contact me through our neighbours, I would like to tell you exactly what your dog did to ours. Your pit bull obviously ran from gate to gate and when he arrived at ours, grabbed our dog through the upper part of the gate.

He was bitten under his left eye, on the right side of his face under his right eye there is a 5cm bite wound and his right bottom lip was torn apart.

He was rushed to the vet for immediate assistance. He has 18 stitches on his lip in an attempt to save it, however, we have been advised that nerve damage is a strong possibility, which we have noticed since he got home.

Mr Jeep – you thought no one saw you – think again! How do you leave an animal that has been hurt like that?
