On 13 January at 5.30pm I drove home on Van Oordt Street and witnessed the most amazing thing.
Two guineafowl were crossing the road with about 15 or so chicks in tow.
My son and I stopped the oncoming cars and escorted the family to the other side while approximately 30 cars waited patiently for them to cross.
The most amazing thing was the sheer delight expressed on each driver’s face as they eventually drove passed us, some with a hoot of acknowledgement, some a smile and a wave. It might seem trivial to others who were not there but to my son and I, it was awesome!
Thank you to those spectacular Krugersdorpers who helped, just by being patient and prevent the decline of surely the most welcoming sound in the early morning, the chattering of our guineafowl.
