All you did was judge

Johan from Krugersdorp writes:

I write this letter in response to what pastor Gerrit Mes said in his column in the 24 January issue of the NEWS.

It’s funny that a “man of God” drove down a street that has rampant prostitution, looked at one and when he realised there was eye contact, he looked away and a feeling of disgust welled up inside him.

If you really were a “man of God” then you would have felt sympathy or sadness, and maybe you would try to talk to her and find out more about her. Maybe that is the only way she can provide for her child or pay for a place to stay. Maybe you could put yourself in her shoes instead of judging.

It is not the prostitutes that are the curse to our town. No, it’s people like you, always criticising but never doing anything to help.

You along with your pharisees, you look down at those people instead of trying to bring them up to your level.

You are first to judge but always last to help. You judge others by what they have to do to survive. Why don’t you leave your nice car and fancy house for a month and do what they do? That really is pathetic. And also you say you remembered a passage when you got home. Well that didn’t help her; all she remembered was a guy looking at her and then looking away with disgust.

I am so glad I am no longer a Christian.

* Pastor Gerrit Mes has informed the NEWS that he works very closely with the CPF and police on numerous projects regarding the illegal prostitution trade within Krugersdorp. Owing to the sensitive nature of the situation, Pastor Mes cannot comment publicly on Johan’s letter and has chosen to contact him personally.
