He died for us, let’s live for Him

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Out of the 52 weekends of the year the most difficult one for me to preach on is Easter Friday.

On this day we remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. The story is quite simple and well-known – Jesus’ arrest, court appearance, injustice of the verdict and his death on a cross.

Christians know the story, but they seldom understand the power of Christ’s death.

If Jesus was truly God’s son, if he really suffered and died, then we owe him so much. Nobody dies for someone else, especially if that person does not deserve so much love.

I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and I believe that his act of kindness and love is the most powerful evidence of God’s concern for us.

How should we respond to the events of Easter?

Surely the only fitting response is to live our lives in such a way that his story will never be forgotten, acts of kindness, sincere forgiveness and complete selflessness in our daily walk among confused, hurting, angry people that cross our paths daily.

My prayer is that the people that never have met Jesus may see a reflection of him in our lives.

PS. He died for us, let’s live for Him.
