News of someone passing away is always sad.
Expected or not expected, the pain of death is always difficult. This morning I received a call that a good friend and a member of our church had passed away.
Sunday night I sat at his hospital bed surrounded by his family. He looked so good, ready for a big but fairly routine operation. Imagine my shock as I heard the news.
12 years ago our church stood at the start of a building project. With very little money and no experience in steel structures I felt very vulnerable.
But this man came to the rescue. He left his job for a few months to erect the steel structure. This was something he was qualified for but had not done in years.
As I think about him and his family today, I am so proud to have worked with him in his service to God.
One day all of us will die, but what shall we leave behind to remind people of our passion in life? For years to come family and friends will drive past our church and remember God’s gift wrapped in an individual.
You and I one day will die, but what will you leave behind to touch other people’s lives?
Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
PS. Thank you Pieter!
