I recently joined the Krugersdorp library again after many years of absence.
What a disguising place to go in Krugersdorp!
Week after week I go there to exchange books and visit the reference library. However, instead of it being a pleasant experience – what one is faced with paving stones on Van Brandis Street having been pulled up and have stacked in piles for months … don’t even try to walk on the pavement …
The island is a total joke and an excuse of so-called “care”.
The parking area – which used to be a smooth tarmac neatly painted with parking spaces, is now a cesspool of broken bottles strewn everywhere. There are holes in the tar, big enough to swallow a tyre.
Animal (hopefully) faeces, plastic, paper and bones are left over revolting meals, broken tables and chairs (upturned tins) for so-called vendors who ply their cheap trinkets, maybe drugs on to the passersby. I personally have seen people consuming alcohol there, out in the open for all to see. Not a care in the world …
The public toilets sink so badly that one can smell them from the walkway. The gardens – or rather lack thereof are in dire need of proper care.
The war memorial is sadly in need of some care too; pieces of the paving have been pulled out along with the bricks. This was erected to the fallen men who fought against tyranny for all of us in the first and second world wars. Does this just not mean anything anymore?
This area has not been cleaned in years. No change is noted every fortnight when I visit there.
The only time any cleaning is done is when the wind blows the litter onto the fence.
Is this what Mogale City thinks is taking care of the environment? Is this just another building – like the (over 100-years-old) Station – which is now just rotting away? I am tired of paying rates and taxes to a municipality who obviously have other priorities – I am tired of their talk talk talk and no action – Krugersdorp is going down the tubes.
It would be great to force the people who run this town to take on the responsibility of actually doing something about the disgusting and deplorable filthy conditions we are forced to live with! We should stand together and refuse to pay our rates and taxes for a month or two and see what reaction we get.
* Thank you for bringing this to the news’ attention, we surely will investigate the matter.
