Drivers take chances

Careful driver from Krugersdorp writes:

The bus accident that featured in the 16 May edition of the news refers:

I saw the bus being removed from the accident scene but was not sure what caused the problem. I read the article as it featured in the paper.

I would like to comment on that intersection. It has a slipway to turn left into John Hoatson Road.

If the robot is red for Albertina Sisulu Road (Main Reef Road) many vehicles slip round and then take a sharp turn back to the traffic light and go through on the green light for John Hoatson.

The speed that many do this at is scary, to say the least. Many taxis do this, only to be confronted by a red light by the time they get around. Then they just go through the red light.

In my opinion the only way to stop this is to remove the slipway into John Hoatson completely.

This will force the traffic to stop when the light is red. This practice of going around to avoid the red light is old, but dangerous.

Put someone there in an unmarked vehicle or something like that and you will see just what I am talking about. It is surprising that there have not been more accidents.
