Electioneering is over. Thank God.
The elections have come and gone. Let the pretence and all the lies stop. Let us now be treated like citizens with brains.
I am proud of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for its streak in grabbing the third spot in the election and securing a place in all nine provincial legislatures.
The EFF proved everyone wrong. The EFF had more than 830 000 votes, or 5,5 per cent.
At least, they did not steal Wasp votes. And they pulled all ANC supporters.
Remember as a political and community leader I’ve raised many issues concerning national corruption, Nkandla and e-tolls to name a few.
But, instead President Jacob Zuma in his response criticised us in a media strategy. Saying at his press conference on 5 May that “clever people” were the only ones talking about Nkandla was unnecessary and proved expensive at the polls.
I think this utterances were almost similar to that of former Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane, who late last year told protesting residents in Bekkersdal, “people can threaten us and say they won’t vote, but the ANC doesn’t need their dirty votes”.
Indeed true that clever people and dirty votes of Bekkersdal cost the ANC big time.
Statistics shows clearly that the ANC lost the most votes in the West Rand, Randfontein, Westonaria and in some parts of Mogale City.
The ANC obtained 53,59 per cent of the vote in Gauteng, down from 64,4 per cent in 2009.
