Robot nightmare near school

Pranaksha Budhoo from Rangeview writes:

The robot that was erected at the intersection of Robert Broom Drive, Norden Road and Swanevelder Road is a nightmare. This robot was put up because of the increased traffic from Curro School. The traffic on Norden Road turning into Robert Broom Drive, Krugersdorp bound is backed up to almost a kilometre at times. Today I waited 13 minutes just to cross over into Robert Broom Drive and when I reached Krugersdorp High School the gates were closed, effectively making my children late for school.

[It takes me half an hour to travel five kilometres in traffic to Krugersdorp High School which is ludicrous.]

When the robot is green cars come straight across to Norden Road from Swanevelder Road and when it is clear to turn into Robot Broom Krugersdorp-bound, the robot turns red again. There is no compulsory green turning arrow giving right of way.

At times the traffic travelling straight through on Robert Broom Drive, Roodepoort-bound stalls at the green robot because the traffic is backed up and cars end up being in the middle of the road causing chaos.

There is too short time for cars turning onto Robot Broom Drive Krugersdorp-bound from Norden Road with no compulsory green turning arrow for right of way. While the time for cars travelling straight on Roodepoort bound is too long, therefore causing the cars to stall at the green robot intersection.

The traffic at this intersection should be studied for an entire week/month and investigated and the proper adjustments should be made to the robot timer with right of way compulsory green arrows.

I really would appreciate it if the news could investigate this matter as it will eliminate road rage and the fact that cars drive through the red robot from Norden Road towards Krugersdorp.
