The shortage of water that affected numerous residential areas around Krugersdorp two weeks ago after a water pipe had burst near Quellerie Park had everyone in a frenzy.
As one of the affected residents, I immediately called Mogale City Municipality to check when water will be restored as it was now day three with interrupted water service. I was referred to the Head of Water and Sanitation, Sandile Mbanjwa who returned my call and later explained the situation and assisted further by sending an sms alerting residents about the water tankers that were made available to affected residential areas from which residents could fetch water.
I realised how big the problem was when I visited the site. There I met a team who was trying to fix the pipe and hard at work to ensure that everyone was connected to the main water grid. What amazed me most was the spirited mood that the team displayed and putting in long hours to fix the problem. I must agree, they did their level best under duress and even if they were let down constantly by the same pipe line bursting from one end to other due to the old infrastructure.
Credit therefore must be given to Mbanjwa and his team for working long hours to ensure that residents who were affected had their water restored that Friday evening.
The team that spent day and night in that hole deserves an award. Though one might argue that it is their job and they don’t deserve such credit, they actually went the extra mile, they never showed a sign of fatigue despite standing with bent backs for hours. Sometime we as a society have to show gratitude, stop bickering and give credit to where it is due.
Well done to the Water and Sanitation team at Mogale City. Don’t stop what you are doing. Serve with integrity.
