I read with interest the letter in the 15 August edition of the news regarding the traffic light on Norden Road and Robert Broom Drive, and wish to comment as follows to set the record straight.
The person that complained about the traffic light has to bear other factors in mind and the person who wrote it should survey the traffic on Robert Broom more closely.
This is what happens:
Coming home late afternoon the traffic is backed up way down past towards Roodekrans. What some people do to avoid this is they turn right into Bell Street going towards Rangview and go all the way around coming up to Norden Road to avoid the build-up of traffic on Robert Broom. Then they either turn into Robert Broom or go straight up Rudd Street.
She forgets that people do this, thus creating the build-up of traffic in Norden. There is much more traffic in Robert Broom than in Norden, so to change the timing on the robots will create more chaos.
The only gripe I have is the arrows early morning and late afternoon. They signal far too long and not many cars are turning at this intersection. The arrows flicking far too long causes traffic to build up and nothing else.
My suggestion to this person is to leave earlier until Mogale wakes up and realises that this is going to be a big problem soon.
The real problem lies with the one lane of traffic on such a busy road as Robert Broom. Mogale should be looking at making Robert Broom a double lane both ways as soon it will not be able to handle the high volume of traffic it is experiencing at the moment.
The DA said they would push for this to be done, but as always political parties make promises that never materialise.
