Just saying …

Is it not time to stand up and make a noise?

It’s that time of year again. No, I’m not talking festive season and overspending, I’m talking renewal. Renewal of post box rentals, tv licences and even just the regular monthly bills payments.

It got me wondering about a few recent delivery service woes and if this will affect our pockets.

I rent a post box. Every year I pay for it on time so that my post can be delivered more easily and safely to its own box. I pay for a full year. This year I haven’t used it (except for fliers) for months as we don’t seem to have a postal service anymore and I haven’t received any snail mail forever. It’s been so bad I can hardly even remember what a letter looks like.

I’ve converted accounts that normally arrived by snail into email and now do as much away from the postal services as possible. Even my parcels get sent via Pick n Pay’s wonderful parcel service. Bliss!

But now I just wonder if I will get a refund for the post box I rent. It’s not as if I can use it as a safety deposit box because there’s no back to the thing so my stuff wouldn’t be safe at all, I can’t use it as a drop off point for anyone unless I get a key to my box for them so, in actual fact, I’ve paid for months of wasted box! I will ask when the notice of rental renewal arrives (which I’m sure it will) for at least four months’ discount for next year.

I’ve also noticed that, although we were waterless in my neck of the woods for around three weeks recently, our water consumption was the same as always. How is that possible?

We had to buy water to drink, we couldn’t bath, wash our hair or flush our toilets and we didn’t have water for washing dishes, washing clothes or preparing food at home. And, when the water eventually came back on we didn’t make up for the waterless days because we didn’t take extra showers, flush toilets twice or wash our laundry more. How is it possible that we still had to pay the same?

To do anything water related we had to drive to friends with water (a rare thing), or we had to drive to buy our own water! Where’s the justice in this? Is it not time to stand up and make a noise about these things?

At least there’s some relief in that petrol prices will drop again and people going on holiday will have some respite.

For those travelling in December, travel safe and be safe.
