Stop shifting the blame SPCA

Xanya Liebenberg from Krugersdorp writes:

The SPCA’s response that the community is to blame for their closing (SPCA blames community – 6 March edition of the News) is an unfounded excuse for poor service.

Although the community certainly has a responsibility towards taking care of these animals, the SPCA also has a duty towards the community.

On visiting the SPCA about a year ago in relation to the inoculation of our puppy, we rudely were told they could not help us (after not even being greeted when we entered).

The “alleged rudeness towards the public” reported in the article is well justified.

We went to Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) and although we were told they only work with the animals that come from their shelter, they said we should return if no-one else could assist us.

Fora also has a charity and book shop, where the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and it is not on the outskirts of town. They also send out regular messages to let you know about events that will be held. This past weekend I even found them selling books at the President Hyper center. For those reasons I choose to support Fora instead of the Krugersdorp SPCA.

I should add that I have been to other SPCAs where the staff were very helpful and the criticism against Krugersdorp SPCA does not extend to the others. They should stop shifting the blame.
