Not all government hospitals are bad

Ruwaida Loonat from Krugersdorp writes:

We are often so quick to complain about the government services, which I do agree are really not up to standard, but I do think when there is a government department that is really trying, credit should be given and they should be recognised.

Our family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care our sister-in-law received during her recent hospitalisation. The sensitivity and support of the fine staff at Helen Joseph Hospital that helped her get the care she so desperately needed, were phenomenal.

My sister-in-law had a growth on her wrist, which was getting more painful and growing bigger. She had been to Leratong Hospital where they merely had done a surgical procedure on her hand in a room. When she kept going back as it was not healing, they continued to send her back home not even bothering to examine her hand. This growth went septic as she was not receiving any medical attention after they had done the surgical procedure.

After Leratong sent her back so many times without assisting her, even after a procedure they did not even performed properly, we had given up hope, until our family doctor examined her hand, made recommendations and referred us to Helen Joseph.

The care and attention my sister-in-law received at Helen Joseph Hospital were beyond our expectation. Never had we seen such a remarkable group of individuals coming together to help their patients. A sincere thank you to Dr Madiza for the procedures performed on her hand. You really have changed our opinion of state hospitals, and we are forever indebted to you.

Tanya’s hand is still healing, and she continues to go for regular cleaning and checkups. We are sure her hand will recover well after being in the excellent care of the staff and doctors at Helen Joseph.

This is just a token of our appreciation for all your combined efforts and to make you aware of what a good facility you are running.
