Don’t ignore God’s orange lights

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

It happens to all of us. You are approaching an intersection and the traffic light turns orange.

Do I speed up or do I stop? No time to think and you have to decide, stop or go. In life it also happens, suddenly an orange light flashes. It may be in a fledgling relationship or a business deal. You can choose to ignore the warning light and speed up or you can stop, look and listen.

Most of us hate being pressured into making decisions. Tomorrow the price goes up, or someone else also wants the car. Pressure!

This is where the example of Jesus is of great value.

Throughout his life story we see his ability to give good answers, quick responses in difficult circumstances. But his secret was, at the start of each day, he would spend time alone in meditation and prayer. By becoming quiet, he would make himself ready for the day’s challenges.

I truly believe that you and I would make less mistakes if we started every day with a few moments of silence. From personal experience I have found that the most important component of prayer is listening.

We don’t know what the day holds, we don’t even know who is a friend and who is an enemy. Life happens at such a rapid rate that quick decisions are unavoidable.

Making a wrong decision can have lifelong consequences. So why not, as you put this paper down, stop, be quiet and allow God to whisper into your heart.

PS. God’s orange lights are important, don’t ignore them.
