Changes in ‘my town’

Colin Cooper from Silverfields writes:

I was born in Krugersdorp in 1960 at what was then The Nursing Home, (now the Krugersdorp private hospital).

I have magic memories of a miss-spent youth in the then beautiful Coronation Park.

Days spent with friends at the beautiful Olympic-size pool (and uncle Charlie, the life guard). In later years my farther taught my brother and I to drive in the park.

Later still, getting my marching orders from the matron at the Nurses Res. The more frequently used name for The Res remains secret.

I note, with interest, at the intersection of Voortrekker Road and Cornellius Moll Street, a sign reading “Coranation Park”.

Did the boundry to ‘my’ beautiful park change while I was sleeping?

Also, in the 70s, the Witpoortjie Hotel was declared a national monument as Paul Kruger used to stop there for coffee.

I see the the historical plaque at the front door now has disappeared.
