I am writing this letter as it is all very well to send in written complaints, but we also should send in written compliments on the service we receive.
I had to have a full knee replacement and had an appointment with Dr Botha at the new hospital in Krugersdorp.
I arrived at the hospital at 7am for the big day. I was nervous and my wife was very stressed. Within 30 minutes I was sent up to the ward to be admitted. In the ward a nurse came and filled in the file and took my vitals. She was very calming and friendly. At 10.30am I was taken to theater, and at 1.15pm I was taken to high care.
I was settled immediately. The next day I was taken to the general ward.
Everything was fantastic. My stay was made very easy with the care and friendliness received in my ward. I was discharged shortly thereafter.
I would like to thank the people who made my operation very easy and not frightening at all.
The state hospitals should consider sending staff to private hospitals to learn about caring, etiquette and politeness from the staff there. Not one staff member walked past you or a visitor without a greeting. It was very refreshing.
The state hospitals also should send the cleaning staff to get lessons on how to clean.
My wife goes to a state hospital once a month with a friend and she always talks about how dirty the toilets and floors are.
