A big thumbs up to Culture Conscious from Krugersdorp, whose letter featured in the 4 March edition of the News.
You hit the nail on the head with your comments on “culture” and what it really means. It has absolutely nothing to do with the colour of your skin.
I find it hard to understand how the future leaders of our country ever will be able to function fully in the big wide world.
Firstly, one of the biggest things is to have respect for self and others.
Manners too, no matter your age or how hip or cool you think you are … manners maketh the man! These things should be taught at home. They then will filter through to society.
People should be proud of their jobs, grateful too, especially those who deal with the public.
The other day I popped into a cellphone shop to have a problem with my email on my phone corrected. The whole time I was being “attended to” the gentleman was busy on his phone, chatting on one of the social media groups; almost as if I was inconveniencing him by being there. Is it not his job to attend to clients?
Cashiers in supermarkets often take little notice of you too, chatting to a colleague the whole time while “attending” to you.
Makes you wonder what the future holds for this beautiful country we live in.
Let’s get back to old-fashioned principles and turn things around for the better. Let’s show the rest of the world that South Africans are different.
If we all followed the Word of God and “loved thy neighbour as you love yourself,” South Africa would be one of the best places in the world to live in.
It begins with you!
