Thank you to off-duty detective for assisting

Pieter Louw from African Christian Democratic Party West Rand office writes:

On 9 April my family and I went to the ACDP constituent offices in Von Brandis Street, Krugersdorp to collect some ACDP promotional material.

Arriving there, we noticed a woman shouting and running towards a white Nissan light delivery vehicle parked on Von Brandis near the shop.

Her agitation immediately drew our attention.

We noticed a male casually (but unlawfully) ‘unpacking’ tools and a toolbox from [under] the canopy at the rear of the vehicle. When he saw the woman running towards him he casually and leisurely crossed the street towards Monument Street.

Perhaps impulsively we gave chase through the parking area adjacent to the library towards Luipaard Street in our vehicle, whereupon the robber started to jog a bit.

From Monument Street I had to give chase on foot with the robber fleeing down Sivewright Street.

I was pleasantly surprised on turning the corner to find the suspect having been stopped and arrested by a vigilant off-duty detective, whom I believe is detective Mokhiti from I assume Krugersdorp SAPS.

I believe the suspect was booked but unfortunately, when we (my wife Anna-Marie, detective Mokhiti and I ) returned to the scene the complainant had already left.

Detective Mokhiti who was off duty and travelling towards Randfontein in his private vehicle had seen our chase. Putting two and two together, he acted above and beyond the call of duty.

In today’s day and age one can still say well done detective and SAPS Krugersdorp.

It is a pity the complainant did not wait at the scene to press charges, though I believe detective Mokhiti did.
