At this chilly time of year, residents of Kagiso and Munsieville are very grateful for the kind donations of food and blankets from some very thoughtful Indian businesses in the community.
The blessing comes from the strategic struggle stalwart Raliphi George Xolelizwe, the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) Mogale City sub-regional intern chairperson, in conjunction with a number of Mayfair business owners, who donated 1 000 blankets to elders in the city. A fair share went to other Sanco-launched branches in the West Rand region.
We were received warmly by the Ward 19 ANC branch chairperson, Angelinah Ma’ma Tillilly Ntlakiane and the Ward’s CLO Shirley Petlele. The blissfully happy residents, young and old, could not hide their joy when speaking to Sanco Mogale City sub-regional leadership about the gifts.
I feel my grandparents were honoured to be part of those receiving gifts this year.
I had the privilege of being in the company of close to 150 senior citizens from the Kagiso area for about three hours. They talked about their experiences, and I learned about how to live life as a frail care-giver, and an unemployed guardian to several grandchildren, how to contend with unemployed young adults, and the challenges of accessing public transport, healthcare and food if you depend on only a pension – and still survive fraudsters and abusive neighbours.
The iconic George Xolelizwe, known as ‘Master Push’, who is also the chairperson of Sanco’s Maki Legwete branch in Kagiso would like to extend his grateful thanks to the Indian business owners for the support shown to the West Rand.
