The future lies with civic organisations

Thabile Mange from Krugersdorp writes:

They only time politicians are visible and friendly is during election time, when they campaign for votes. Once voted into power, they turn their backs on the masses. In other words, they treat the masses as voting cattle.

I’ve said this before and I think it’s worth repeating: Until the masses realise that power lies with them, and not with politicians, nothing will change. On the other hand, politicians are happy that the masses don’t realise that they have power over them. And they want to maintain the status quo, because it serves them.

Politicians are working tirelessly to render the masses weak and inefficient. They reward those who dance to their music and punish those who disagree with them – this is also applicable within political parties. That’s how they protect and keep themselves in power.

For as long as politicians wield power, they will continue to serve their own interests, like they do now. They will claim to have the best interest of the masses at heart, when it is public knowledge that they don’t. That’s manipulation.

And the masses will continue to feel powerless. And when they feel powerless, they will also continue using violence as political communication, and in the process destroy public property. After all, they don’t have a sense of ownership towards public property.

Politicians have proven that they cannot be trusted with power. It’s time that the masses reclaim their power by entrusting their votes to people they trust will deliver, and give them an ear. The masses should stand up and be counted.

The masses should organise themselves and form a strong and powerful civic organisation/s. I’m not referring to the “concerned residents” types that are formed by opportunists for short-term gains. If you’ve noticed, the concerned resident’s formations never last because they are not long-term.

The future lies with civic organisations, not political parties. The future lies with active citizens, not political leaders. But it is up to the masses to organise themselves and reclaim their power. Otherwise, politicians will continue to reign and serve their own selfish interests.
