We are always quick to jump to report bad service, but let me tell you how impressed I am with the service I received from staff members at the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital.
On 1 July, I went to Yusuf Dadoo for a scan. I am six and a half months pregnant and wanted to know if the baby is okay. First I was told that I can’t just have a scan, there has to be a reason for it, such as complications with the unborn child – so the woman said I should go to the x-ray department. I went there, but they also could not assist. I then went to the Casualty Department, where I asked them how I go about getting a scan done as I just want to check that my baby is fine. They told me that I can go to their clinic (I was not even aware that they had a clinic in the hospital).
When I got to the clinic, I spoke to Sister Thembekile, who asked me for my green progress card. I didn’t have one, as I was not advised to get one. She then said I wasn’t booked in for when the baby is ready to come. I was stressing and asked what I should do as I was under the impression I was automatically booked in when I made my first visit to hospital in February. Clearly this wasn’t the case. She assisted me by opening a Maternity Case Record. She also told me I was now booked in, and that I need to take the booklet along each time I come in for my regular visits, as they need to keep track of the pregnancy.
I was helped very professionally and the staff were very friendly. I walked in there stressing and walked out smiling – they have such a great sense of humor and did not treat me differently. Keep up the good work ladies!
I was afraid of giving birth there at first, but I know now I have nothing to be afraid of – I am positive that when I give birth next month all will be fine and my baby and I will be in good hands. (I hope to get the same staff as I have never experienced such awesome service before.)
