Nothing will change post election

Tom Lessing from Krugersdorp North writes:

Politicians of the ruling party are showing how resourceful and creative they can be in their efforts to win votes.

I drive a lot, crisscrossing just about the entire region of Mogale every week and to my surprise I see street sweepers and workers cleaning pavements as far as I go.

The only thing missing among these workers are posters saying, “We are doing this so that you will vote for the ANC.”

What they should say is, “We are vying for votes but shall stop cleaning the pavements and streets as soon as we have won the election.”

The most distressing thing, however, is that the opposition party would probably do a worse job than the ANC if they were to win the election.

Allow me to explain. I have been trying to get the municipality to send one of their workers to cover our water meter on the pavement with a new blue plastic cover. At the moment it is covered with stones, bricks and rubble. I have been begging them to do this for more than three years. I have phoned them, personally went to see them in their offices in President Street and have asked workers who read the meters every month a multitude of times to look into the matter. I could just as well have gone to the Mogale cemetery and spoken to the dead.

I have also phoned our ward councillor and visited the ward office, also to no avail.

Like the council, they write your name and address in a little book with vanishing ink. As far as I am concerned, this is nothing else than another form of racism.
