I went to the local municipal offices on 19 December. I was there early, before the doors opened, and fourth in the row.
When the doors opened we all rushed to the correct counter (which is not always clear).
Big was our surprise when, after they served the first customer, the admin people behind the counters got up and walked out. They were on strike! Apparently since the previous week.
It would have been nice if the council had sent an SMS to the ratepayers, like they do with water and electricity supply interruptions, when there is a strike. There is no number to phone as they were on strike and a lot of people had to turn around.
Anyway, the next morning I was there earlier, in case the same thing happened. It did not while I was there and as I left I found an employee washing the paving off with a hosepipe – a definite no according to their own water restriction rules.
Is this a case of ‘don’t practice what you preach’?
