As a pastor, I hear lots of very sad stories.
Often it is not because people have sown bad seed, but because we all, at times, reap what other people have sown. Some people need an ear to listen, others are reaching out for advice. But from time to time, I meet people who don’t need an ear or advice. They need tangible assistance.
Some months ago I met just such a person. I felt, in his situation, he needed cash – now. I didn’t have much but I gave it to him. He told me that the money saved his life and his precious animals. He didn’t come to pay it back, but to give it to me to save someone else’s life. It made my day. He now has a job and income, but he will never forget an act of kindness from a stranger.
Matt 10:42 says, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward”.
The truth is that sometimes prayer is not enough, you have to do something. It is partly true that actions speak louder than words. Amen!
