Discipline, many believe, is the key to success. Disciplined people do, without a doubt, achieve more than people with little or no self-discipline.
At the beginning of the year I started to walk in the mornings. It is good for my body and my mind. Now, four months later the initial discipline is assisted by routine. Yes, the sun comes up later, yes, the temperature is very chilly but I am in the routine and I love it. Sport, study and yes, Christianity are built on the foundation of discipline and routine. That is probably why Jesus’ followers and the followers of other religious leaders are called disciples. A disciple is a person that follows the master in a disciplined way.
Reading your Holy Book must be a discipline. Making time for prayer is a discipline, attending places of worship is a routine born out of discipline. We are all creatures of habit, but it takes careful planning to get the right habits.
Jesus was in the habit of going to solitary places early in the morning to pray.
It was his habit to go to a place of worship on set days and times.
If I can walk early in the morning, enjoying many benefits – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – imagine how your life could improve with a bit of discipline and Godly routine.
It all starts with self-discipline.
