Our traffic department is bad – but not so bad

George Maartens from Krugersdorp CBD writes:

I would like to bring two things to your readers’ attention:

There is always a huge issue about speeding, and the traffic department was allegedly going to focus on stop streets.

I am not seeing this, because on every trip I make during the day, I drive past various schools, where I see that the two go hand-in-hand – you cannot speed if you have to properly stop at a stop street or red traffic light, and wait for the green light before pulling away.

I saw a very good thing in Randfontein. There they properly check the roadworthiness of vehicles. I drive a lot during the day and sometimes at night in the West Rand area and cannot see how some of the cars and trucks on the road can be roadworthy.

I have to say that Krugersdorpers’ driving is still better than that of motorists in Soweto. There if you stop at a red light you have to watch out, as they do not even slow down for red lights.

Please let us not degrade like this. Let’s have pride in our jobs.
