I work in the Krugersdorp CBD on Market Street and witness muggings on a daily basis.
These thugs ‘work’ on a ‘don’t mess with my business as I don’t mess with your’s’ basis and are known to most shopkeepers and law enforcement officials.
They operate in plain sight with passersby just looking on. The sad thing is that they usually target elderly white people, and usually work in groups of two to three guys, one on lookout, one to distract and the other to do the job. They use different methods like picking pockets, signal jamming and so forth. You’d usually find them walking with a plastic bag which would contain a hat and another top in order to change into something different after the job is done.
They usually operate on Market Street, outside the Post Office and around the Hypermarket while their friends operate at Home Affairs posing as car-guards or photographers.
I really think something ought to be done, as we see the town deteriorating further and further.
