‘When tempted, run’

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

We all have a past. It is universal to all of us. Even a country has a past. But we all know how the past can impact today and even influence tomorrow. As I pondered on the idea of the past, a few very interesting things came to mind. You cannot change what is in the past. No amount of effort can change a silly thing you did many years ago. It could have been on impulse or without carefully thinking of the consequences. But it is done and cannot ever be undone. Another terrible thing about the past is that there are some things you cannot fix. The damage done by an affair may be forgiven, even forgotten, but no amount of effort can fix the past.

But not everything in the past is bad. One good thing about the past is, you can learn from it. So don’t forget the pain of the past – it has a purpose, to stop you from repeating it.

If you and I understand the danger of our actions in the future we will be more careful with decisions made today.

So before you do something, think. Think about how it will impact the rest of your life. How it could impact the people you love forever! One of the lessons of life that I was taught is this, the man has to live with the decisions the boy made. Maybe that is why the Bible warns, “When tempted, run.”

Think before you do, run before it is too late.
