There is a God

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Have you ever asked, “Is there a God?” Many church-going or in general religious people believe there is a God as long as He answers their prayers. Recently I found – in the strangest place – what I believe is proof of God’s existence.

It wasn’t in a church building with a pulpit, steeple and pews. It was in the animal kingdom. A farmer put a few masked weavers in a big enclosure. He supplied the weavers with wooden nesting places. None of the natural nest-weaving materials was available to them. Three or four generations of birds lived in captivity.

Then the farmer removed the nests and provide the birds with nest-weaving materials found in nature to build nests. Without any instruction manual or technical training, the birds built perfect nests. No hands, no fingers, just a beak. God must have built into these amazing creatures the building plans for a perfect nest.

Now, in case you think birds are stupid and you are so clever, I challenge you to try to weave a nest using only your mouth (and no Google).

Without a doubt there is a Creator. A few weeks ago I held my new-born grandson in my arms. Looking at him I thought, there is a God. So perfect in every way. Too amazing to be a result of time, matter and space.

I don’t ask, “Is there a God”, anymore. Now I stand in wonder, knowing he made you and me.
