‘We are taking back this area’

Nthabi from Luipaardsvlei writes:

I just bought a building in Luipaardsvlei which was a well-known drug den and prostitutes’ nest.

With God’s grace, I managed to get rid of them.

We are almost done renovating the block and ready to lease. I developed a passion for this area and hope the council can be involved to help us, the upcoming/ potential investors, to regenerate the area and get rid of these illegal activities. It’s sad that every time I drive through the area to visit the site, prostitutes and drug sellers come close to my car trying to sell.

The way the ladies live breaks my heart every time I see them.

I am writing to you so you can make it known that there are people like me who want to rejuvenate this area and need the help of the council and/ or the police. I have seen local police working with the drug lords of my building collecting money time and again, so I don’t even bother to ask them for help.

There’s a few dilapidated buildings that need work and the tavern on the corner is dominated by foreign nationals and lots of illegal activity.
