I read with interest the articles written by Thabile Mange of Kagiso. both in the News as well as in The Star praising the mayor of Krugersdorp. I would like to reply to Thabile as follows:
He has on several occasions praised and commended the present mayor of Krugersdorp, Naga Patrick Lipudi for various attributes, namely, being a ‘people’s mayor’, visiting people, engaging with the citizens, and using social media, among other things. He then ends with, “Lipudi is the kind of leader the City needs right now”. Really? You can write as many articles as you like praising him, but when all is said and done, we have a City that is in desperate need of refurbishment, and a revamp, and nothing is being done about it.
To Thabile I say, catch a wake-up and take a walk through the middle of Krugersdorp town with your wonderful mayor, going up and down every street, taking note of the filth lying around, look at all the robot poles and dustbins illegally plastered with notices, dustbins overflowing, paving broken, drains blocked, no names visible on streets, potholes, etc. The middle of town is in an appalling, atrocious and filthy state.
Then next I suggest you both visit the absolutely disgusting, dilapidated and derelict City Hall.
On the west side of the City Hall (Kruger Street entrance) where one parks to visit the municipal offices, the filth lying around is disgusting. Concrete slabs are broken, and tiles are broken and missing on the long walk up the ramp and stairs to the offices.
Going into the municipal offices, I was greeted at the front door with a load of bird droppings spattered all over the tiles, besides the visible debris lying around outside as well. The toilets were cordoned off as being ‘out of order’ – for how long, I wonder? There was nobody in sight, even at 9.30am, cleaning up!
Krugersdorp town looks just as bad as a town in Zimbabwe or Mozambique, if not worse for all the filth lying around.
It is quite obvious from this description, there is no one doing any work around this side of the hall, and nobody is checking up on whoever is responsible!
So if the Mayor engages with the citizens, and is a people’s person, why has he not taken a walk around the town of Krugersdorp and had it cleaned up, including the dreadful and dilapidated City Hall?
