Eyewitnesses needed to hit and run

The Coetzee family from Noordheuwel writes:

Our special cat, Friday, only four years old, was callously killed in the street just outside our home (corner Soutpansberg and Matroosberg Streets). He had come a long way from being rescued as a seven-week-old kitten on a busy road in the city of Port Louis, Mauritius.

A caring woman, whom we only know as Lumarie, kindly stopped as she came across Friday lying exactly in the middle of Soutpansberg Street opposite our house. She called and stood at our palisade fence to attract our attention to enquire whether we owned a ginger cat.

We heard her calling and ran outside to see what the problem was. To our dismay, we saw our lovely ginger cat lying in the road in his own blood. There was not a mark on him – no broken bones, teeth or anything other than the head trauma he appeared to have suffered on impact, likely with a passing vehicle in the road. We are heart-broken, as Friday had been brought back to South Africa to give him a better and longer life here, and now we have lost him in this sad way.

We would like to thank Lumarie for her great care and kindness and ask her to please contact us if she reads this letter.

We also hope that anybody who witnessed the incident, perhaps a pedestrian or a driver passing by at the time, will contact us with whatever information they might have.

We would appreciate you contacting Jason on 083 333 3873 or 011 954 2930, or Beryl on 083 276 2035.

Any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, may help us to achieve closure in this sad ending to Friday’s shortened life as a member of our family.
