Just a grave warning going out to all Mogale citizens to watch your water meters very carefully on Friday afternoons at about 4pm, because you might see a Mogale City bakkie speeding away after cutting the water supply off, no matter whether you are in possession of a pre-paid meter or not.
Don’t even bother to phone the after-hours customer care line because all you get are ringing numbers, never to be answered, or if you are lucky and do get an answer, the person on the other end of the line can’t or won’t answer simple questions like ‘Are the offices open tomorrow, on a public holiday, or not?’
All this happened to me even though my account is up to date. This was confirmed by the accounting department the following Monday morning. That’s when the blame game started – it wasn’t Mogale City, it was the meter contractors, but the contractors were adamant that the water was cut by Mogale City.
Who knows? We, the paying public, are once again the victim and we sat the whole weekend without a drop of water. This, just as a matter of interest, is a contravention of our constitutional rights, as the Constitution states water may not be limited or withheld as a punitive measure – but maybe Mogale is above our Constitution. I would not know.
Our water supply was restored on the Monday morning, but we still don’t know who turned it on. Throughout this whole saga, our stalwart councillor, Annette Fourie was by our sides every step of the way, trying every number she could to get our water restored, and she never gave up.
Thank you, Annette. Without your input we would never have coped.
I still remain a very irate citizen.
