Are science and faith compatible?

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Some people think that science is an enemy of faith, and that faith is an enemy of science.

Although science and faith are often suspicious of each other, science has confirmed some biblical teachings. Here are a few examples:

In Isaiah 40:22, the Bible speaks of the earth as round, science then was adamant that the earth was flat. Modern science has confirmed the Bible, saying the earth is round.

In Hebrews 11:3, the Bible says that the things seen were created out of unseen things. Science then said creation was from visible elements. Modern science confirmed the Bible’s opinion.

Jeremiah 33:22 states that the stars in the sky are so many they cannot be counted. Science then taught that there were about 1 100 stars. Modern science today confirms the Bible. The stars are too many to count.

Despite the above, science and faith are still often in conflict.

As a Christian, I believe that honest science and sincere faith combine to give us a solid foundation for our belief in God.

If you want to boost your faith, read Psalm 19, then go lie outside at night and hear the stars speak about God’s creation.

Not to believe in God takes more faith than believing. Amen.
