A little bit of courtesy, please

Concerned from Krugersdorp writes:

I wish to express my concern in respect of the employment applications, especially with regard to the high unemployment rate.

It would appear that prospective employers have no respect for prospective employees in that they receive applications attaching CVs via email and in some cases they request faxed CVs. This last mentioned particularly is a bone of contention as they expect people who are unemployed to pay exorbitant rates in order to send their CVs – in one case I know of, as much as R220, and it is later revealed as a scam or worse, not even acknowledged.

It is a known fact that fax is no longer used by most firms and has been replaced by email and that job seekers can go to any Internet depot where their CV can be scanned and sent at a much lower cost, or better still use one of their family’s internet connections. So why do some firms request a fax?

My point is that after going through all this, prospective employers do not even acknowledge receipt or at least advise application unsuccessful. They merely state in the advert if you have not heard within such and such time you can take it as read your application was unsuccessful.

I am sure there are many prospective employees who never receive the courtesy of a response.
