Kagiso water supply affected by Eikenhof outage
Residents are being urged to brace for continued water disruptions as the Kagiso system works to recover.
Residents in Kagiso may have woken up to dry taps this morning, September 9, following disruptions to the water supply in Mogale City.
Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) assistant manager for media and public relations, Refilwe Mahlangu, said the municipality’s Water Services Department had reported that the Kagiso Reservoir was critically depleted, at just 0.8%.

According to Mahlangu, the situation followed a power outage at Eikenhof, which affected Rand Water’s system.
“Following the Eikenhof power outage, Rand Water’s Witpoortjie Reservoir outlet, which supplies water to the Kagiso system, was closed to allow the system to recover,” said Mahlangu.
She said the outlet was reopened at 05:00 on September 9. However, the Kagiso water system will take time to recover, and the municipality is currently unable to provide an estimated time for when water supplies will be fully restored.

To minimise the impact on residents, water tankers will be dispatched to affected areas in co-ordination with councillors.
MCLM said it will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as they become available.
